This is Our Playground...

‘This is our playground’ is the second phase of the Voyage project for mymy.

“My time growing up in Barbados will always influence my work whether it is experimenting with colour, symbols, language, a laid-back tone. I really love to create work that is not too serious, is a bit freer in approach but always keeping the quality very high.

In Wild Flower, I love that it is ‘Flower’ (rather than flowers) which, to me, implies growth as well as simply pretty flowers. Together with ‘Wild’ it gives the feeling of going all out to achieve your greatest potential.

This Is Our Playground connects the idea of the tropical paradise of Barbados with nature and, again, a feeling of creative potential.

What I find exciting and interesting is working with a talented design student like Hannah to create work that is a fusion, a collaboration of different cultural backgrounds."

Maya Whitehead-Nash

A collaboration of different cultural backgrounds.

Hannah Bäuerle studied BA Hons Graphic Design at the University of Worcester. Modules on the course such as Creative Digital Imaging & Typography; Graphic Design for Print; and Industry Collaboration have helped Hannah gain a wide range of experience and have given her the opportunity to create designs across a variety of disciplines including print; web design; product design; and publishing. Through these modules, Hannah has expanded her skills in all main Adobe Suites such as Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop and developed an interest in brand identity and print.

Having worked with Maya in lectures where she was inspired by her designs and creative ideas, Hannah approached Maya to explore further design opportunities. The idea for the identity of Maya & Co. was to create an umbrella portfolio, that sits above the mymy brand, for which Hannah was asked to design a luxurious yet modern logo.  It needed to feel premium, to convey a sense of something royal and opulent whilst bringing a playful, island life vibe.

This identity inspired both the poster and postcard designs. Based on bright and vibrant colours, the designs include tropical elements, with details of foliage and animals that are found in the Caribbean, creating a paradise island atmosphere.
